A few people have expressed concerns about what will happen to the children if Hisani closes. For sure that is first and foremost in our minds as we only want to improve their lives, not make them worse. I have contacted a number of organizations who are willing to take on the children who are actually orphans. In the end, however, the fate of the children lies with the government and social welfare office.
Soon I will post addresses of the main people that oversee these issues so that everyone interested can write them letters expressing our concerns. That way even if people reading this disagree with what I believe they can have their opinions on the matter heard. My desired outcome is to see Hisani closed, the assets seized (although the actual orphanage I think should be handed over to another NGO), and sold to provide private school scholarships for the Hisani children. I sponsor eleven orphaned children in Tanzania myself and I have to say that going to private school is a hell of a lot better than living in an orphanage.

Hi There,
ReplyDeleteI think that what you are doing is AMAZING! I also want to close down FONELISCO orphanage in Mwanza for teh same reasons- abuse of children and they are not orphans but the owner's family. Do not support FONELISCO or HISANI. We are not helping Africa by supporting these so called 'orphanages'. They are hurting so many children and they are not sustainable anyway. All the best to you. I hope that this works. I want to start a similar campaign against FONELISCO but its so hard to make people believe what you are telling them. I guess its easier to ignore the truth and pretend that you're doing something good than face up to the fact that you may have supported the corruption that goes on in these places.
What evidence have you got?
